I.O. Technologies and GrCI Partner on Distance Learning

Bringing Graphic Arts Training to China, California Newspaper Publishers

Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Institute (GrCI) and I.O. Technologies, a leading industry consulting and training company, have formed an alliance for creating and distributing on-line training. The content is served via I.O. Technologies’ ollé™ learning environment, providing the next generation of on-line learning with their ollé™ InfoFind Dynamic Learning System. Delivering content from a network of industry experts via I.O.'s olle on-line delivery method, this system provides access to that training and expertise, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. (See screen captures shown at right.)

"The ollé on-line program is a real breakthrough. It is the wave of the future for graphic arts education. Those corporations adopting this approach will be ahead of the game in educating their workforce for success in the twenty-first century. The approach is outstanding and the absolute wave of the future in educating and training the graphic arts workforce!"
– Professor Harvey Levenson, Department Head, Graphic Communication Dept., Cal Poly

"Cal Poly doesn’t readily lend its name to supporting efforts," explained Harvey Levenson, dean department head of Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication Department. He said the University was proud and pleased to be connected to such a high-caliber program. His remarks are from a Press Conference at Graph Expo in Chicago (September 29, 2003) where the Graphic Communication Institute announced its participation with I.O. Technologies and NPES in the Greater China Project.

This project will provide for the translation of all the content from ollé and the Institute into Chinese and for distribution into Mainland China. A technology revolution in print is underway in China, and there is a great need for training to best implement and utilize the newest technologies. "Every federal dollar invested in ideas such as this one from NPES generates $86 in exports," said Brad Hess, manager of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s market development program. "That’s a very good return on investment for an export promotion program, and NPES’s return is even higher." The organizations began their partnership earlier this year through the publication of a course for the California Newspaper Publishers Association entitled, "Computer-to-plate for Newspaper Publishers." It covers the complete workflow associated with direct-to-plate workflows. The emphasis of this on-line training will be the viability of direct-to-plate technology as it relates to newspaper operations. Cooperation has continued through a number of projects (including the Greater China Project described below). For more information regarding this and other courses, visit the  I.O. Technologies On-Line Learning Center .
